Out and about

Where's Ryan?

I'm not quite as elusive as Waldo...but close.

It's been a busy past couple of weeks for me out on the trails, and not just the trails here at Great Glen. Although, I would definitely recommend getting out on our trails to see the flowers—especially the lady slippers. There are pockets of them all over the place, and they are beautiful.

So, where have I been?

It all started a little over two weeks ago with my running at the Pineland Farms Trail Challenge. D and I, along with a group of friends, ran the 25k. They also offer a 50k and 50 miler. In short, it was hard, but a lot of fun. The race directors put on a great race. Congratulations also has to go out to Nordic Meister and Great Glen Trails regular, Bob Seaman who finished 8th in the 50 Mile in 7:57. Very impressive.

A few days after the race, D and I found ourselves doing something completely out of character for us: we went to Aruba. Of course, there was a good reason: my sister's wedding. It was a great get away. Of course, we did manage to get out for a trail run in the Aruban desert. You didn't think we'd just sit on the beach, did you? Well, we did that, too. Oh, and don't forget the beautiful wedding.

Following our return from Aruba, D and I made our way back out onto the Appalachian Trail to continue our section hike. It was rugged, hot and buggy. And, There's a Black Fly in My Eye. Well, not that one, but an actual black fly in my eye. Not something I'd recommend. That being said, it was our first backpacking trip of the season and good to be back in the mountains.

In between all that, I've been hitting the trails runnung as much as possible trying in vain to keep up with the fast guys in the Spring Trail Running Series. Maybe I'll see you out there. Or maybe I'll remain elusive.
