The Start of the Boys' Varsity race during the Mt. Washington Invitational

Pinkham Notch, NH—On a hazy, humid day in Pinkham Notch, the high school cross country season officially got underway for twenty-two schools with the running of the Mt. Washington Cross Country Invitational hosted by Berlin High School at Great Glen Trails.

High school harriers from throughout New Hampshire converged on Great Glen Trails to tackle the 5-kilometer course, noted for being one of the toughest courses the schools will see all season.

Dylan Summers of Kingswood closed in the final quarter mile to win a close boys’ varsity race in a time of 17:02. Matt Travalini of Londonderry was second in 17:07, followed by Chris Apkarian of Prospect Mountain in third with a time of 17:13. On the team side, Pinkerton Academy took the title followed by Kingswood and Hanover.

Georgia Griffin of Hanover ran away with the girls’ varsity race winning with a time of 18:32. Holly Banaian of Manchester Memorial was second in 19:49, and Rachel Schnieder of St. Thomas finished third in 19:51. It was also an easy victory for Hanover in the team competition. The Hanover girls placed six in the top ten to win easily over Londonderry and Coe-Brown.
