Pinkham Notch, NH—Thanks to more than 15 inches of new snow, Great Glen Trails will host the Atomic Sprints, the first cross country ski race in New Hampshire for the 2009/2010 winter season on Saturday, December 12 at noon. More than $1,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top skiers.
The Atomic Sprints at Great Glen have become an early season racing tradition for college and high school skiers from throughout New England as this is the first time they will have the opportunity to hone their racing skills. In sprint racing, racers are slotted into qualifying heats with all but the first and second skier eliminated. In the later heats, skiers need to finish first to advance until ultimately only four skiers remain for the final heat. Prizes will be awarded in both an open and junior division with more than $1,000 in ski equipment up for grabs thanks to Atomic and Great Glen Outfitters. Held on a 1-kilometer loop, the race is perfect for spectators as well.
Registration is available day of the race for $10 per racer. Race begins at noon.
Great Glen Trails requests that all college and high school coaches send team rosters prior to race day to expedite the registration process. Emails can be sent to Mary Power, email@example.com
Great Glen Trails is now open daily for for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Snowmaking will continue on the snow tubing hill with hopes to open soon thereafter. Click here for complete snow condition updates.
