WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT ON A SNOWCOACH TOUR?
There is no set schedule of times that the SnowCoaches leave the base. Other than the first trip of the day at 9 am, all other trips are scheduled to leave 30 minutes after the first two tickets are sold, or as soon as the vehicle is full. These are 12 passenger vans that we put 7 - 9 people on.
Mt. Washington SnowCoaches leave the base area of the Auto Road and Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and climb up about 4.5 miles, or two thirds of the way to the summit.
Upon arrival at the “Top of the Tour”, passengers are invited to exit the SnowCoach for a few minutes for photos and video opportunities before climbing back aboard for the downward journey back to the base (you can also snowshoe down if you choose!).
At times views can be breathtaking overlooking the protected Great Gulf Wilderness and the Presidential mountain range. At other times high winds and snow can be experienced allowing passengers to witness the extreme conditions which Mount Washington is so well known for. At all times the warmth and safety of the SnowCoach are just steps away.
HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR TOUR?
Although we plan to operate every day on a first-come, first-serve basis, the weather and trail conditions on Mount Washington are unpredictable and at times limit our operation schedule. You can call us at (603) 466-3988 to get the latest detail from our friendly staff or you can check our website for the current operating status here>>
New this year
We are offering reservations for the FIRST tour of the day (9:00am). Those who book the first tour of the day online will save $5 per person. Please note that reservations are affected by the same mountain conditions mentioned above. The remaining tickets for trips throughout the day are sold onsite, in person.
*SnowCoach tours will not be available on Sunday, March 5 due to Ski, Shoe & Fatbike to the Clouds.
SUNRISE SNOWCOACH TOURS
Experience an unforgettable winter sunrise at treeline from the comfort of the Mt. Washington SnowCoach.
Our experienced SnowCoach drivers will take you to treeline (weather permitting) at 4,200 feet on the Mt. Washington Auto Road for a chance to watch the sun rise. We leave promptly at 6:30 am in January and 5:45 am in February from the base lodge, and will not hold back the trip as we need to keep a tight schedule throughout the day for all our guests.
Even if we don't actually get to the see the sun rise, you can be sure the early morning lighting at treeline will make for incredible and unforgettable scenes. Although you are riding in a heated van, you should dress warm as you will have an opportunity to get out of the SnowCoach for pictures and to experience the weather on Mount Washington.
Weather information can be found here and you are always welcome to call for the latest conditions at the Top of the Tour.
