During our Trail Series race yesterday all I heard was how nice the Lady Slippers were. So I had to see for myself. Wow! They were beautiful and are in full bloom. Both the Pink and White Lady Slippers can be spotted throughout our trail system. In some areas the Pink Lady Slipper is rare and endangered because they take a long time to grow and people collect them. So be sure to leave both colors right where they are for the next person to enjoy! Come see for yourself how unique and beautiful these flowers are.

Hi,
Why are some pink and others white (lady slipper’s). is it do to different phenotypes or environmental (phenotypic) plasticity?
I recently saw a group of white lady slipper’s at Canvas Dam campsite on the NW arm of Chesuncook Lake in the North Maine Woods.
Thanks … Richard Lombard
Honestly, I’m not really sure. Perhaps there’s a botanist in the audience that can help us. I do know that white and pink are the most common colors, but some ladyslippers are sport yellow flowers. Those are fairly rare, and I’ve only seen one, maybe two, along our trails.
Richard,
We do not know the answer to that, but we are working on finding out more information for you. Thanks for your interest!
Richard,
I found this website that may help answer your question http://www.landscape-and-garden.com/orchids/paphiopedilum-orchid.aspx
